A graphic of a woman trying not to self sabotage her decluttering by thinking whether to buy more or save her money

Episode 87 – Avoiding self sabotage when decluttering

Avoiding self sabotage when decluttering is a vital component of your journey. Decluttering can be a life changing project, but it's important that we start to shift our mindset too, so we no longer bring things into our homes that we don't need.

When we are out shopping, there are so many things where control is taken away from us - we bow to pressure from marketeers, emails and sometimes even friends and buy things we hadn't intended. It's so important to shop intentionally to avoid self sabotage when decluttering our homes.

  1. I heard important information here and will listen again as a reminder. When I go to markets, yard sales most stores I leave my money in the car. If I need it/want it is it worth going back to the car for the money? Sometimes absolutely yes but most times no. Not that I’m lazy and can’t walk out to get the cash but in the time lapsed I lose the desire for the item.
Years ago I would fill up my wagon then I started to go put the items back. Again it gave me time to think. I realized it was the thrill of the hunt more than wanting to own. Good thing as now as I remove items from my home I realize how very much I saved with those two changes.
