  1. This was such a great episode! I loved Jennifer’s point about how much mental energy gets tied up in a cluttered wardrobe—it’s so true that opening a chaotic closet can completely set the wrong tone for the day. Her suggestion to organize by item type instead of color or activity makes so much sense, too. It’s not something I would’ve thought of, but it’s such a practical way to streamline the morning routine!

I’d love to know—when you both talk about trying on every single item, did you ever have clients who were resistant to that? I imagine it’s easy to get overwhelmed, especially with a larger wardrobe. How do you help someone push through that part of the process? Would love to hear more about how you handle those situations!

    1. Hi Natalia, when I'm working with clients I don't let them try on every item, since I'm focused on what we are keeping and what is going and there is only a small pile of "not sure" items that then can be tried on by the client during or after the decluttering session. Jennifer is a wardrobe stylist so she looks at what the clients fit well, what colours suit, etc. So we have a different, but similar way of helping. Hope that makes sense.

      1. Thanks so much for quick reply, Ingrid! That totally makes sense—having a “not sure” pile seems like a great way to streamline things and keep the process moving. I imagine it helps people avoid getting stuck on too many decisions in the moment!

Sorry for bothering you, but I have another question. When you work with clients, do you find that certain categories of clothing (like sentimental pieces or expensive items) are harder for people to let go of? How do you help them work through those emotions? It must be really rewarding when clients have that “lightbulb” moment and see the benefits of decluttering!

      2. Yes for sure. What I see a lot is the first time we do the wardrobe lots of “no-brainers” go out. Clothes that are worn out, have holes, don’t fit, wrong size, wrong colour, etc. Sentimental items of clothing or very expensive clothing normally doesn’t get decluttered the first time round and needs building up of the “decluttering muscle” before they are ready to look at these items.
