Well, Lesley, I must admit, I am looking forward to recording this podcast, because we already had quite a lot of fun preparing it. Didn't we to kind of find out there's still things we don't know about each other. It's how is it possible? I know absolutely and I actually can't believe that we we did an Ingrid and Lesley week. Here we are at the end of it. I'm like, Yeah, Ingrid and Lesley, we like, what were we actually thinking? But we're doing Ingrid and Lesley week. We really need to go in deep on Ingrid and Lesley, don't we? And so that's what we've done. We're going in for the questions we are bearing all in this week's podcast. So let's get cracking. So we've got a series of questions Ingrid about life in general, and we're going to answer them. You're going to answer it. I'm going to answer it. First question.

Tell me something about your childhood that our listeners probably don't know. Well, okay, I think our listeners don't know that I actually lived in America when I was 16 years old. I went on a plane by myself to live with a host family for a year, and I went to high school, and I was a senior, and I actually went to the prom, and I had a graduation gown, and I threw my hat and all of that. And I was a representative. I was a treasurer of the senior class, and I was involved in the school choir and the school play, and I was in the volleyball team, where I played very badly volleyball, but, Oh, hey. Oh so yeah, I had an amazing year with an amazing host family. Let's, let's reel this back a little bit. 16 years old, you go, your mum goes, Do you know why Ingrid, let me just send you halfway across the world on your own at 16 to a completely foreign country where you know nothing, yeah, in a foreign language as well, because you, whilst you are proficient to English now, presumably you are not quite so proficient then. And so it's quite a big move, isn't it? Quite a bold move. I know if I'm thinking about this now, I'm like, I don't even understand that my parents. I mean, it was with an organization. I just didn't just randomly find a family to kind of go, I cannot live with you. But I really, I saw the movies when I was growing up, the American movie, and I thought, how cool would it be to go to a prom and have, like, a nice dress Holland, because we are on bikes all the time. We're, like, quite casual. So I thought, wow, it would be amazing to, like, wear this wonderful gowns, and I want to throw with my graduation hat like I see in the movies, and go, you know, when you finish high school. And then I kind of flow to the idea with my parents. They were like, wow, oh, okay. And then we found an organization at the time that were like doing exchange programs, but there were no kind of American students coming to to Holland because of the language, probably, but they helped a lot of people from Europe to go and find families in the US. And then a family

picked me, and they actually were quite young, but did not pick you

there languages, but what's your main name? Smearing English spearing, yeah, little English fearing is there. And they're like, How can we not pick that lovely smiley face? And so England was in to in Georgia, right? Yeah, in Georgia. And our robot for Glenn.

Time Woodstock, and I went to a I went to a high school. And I remember of so I remember so many things of that year, Lesley, it was honestly the best year. I've had an amazing host family and and we had to go to the to the office, the school office, because the school was brand new at the time. And the woman said to me,

Well, we're going to put you in the junior class. And I looked at her, and I went, No.

And she went, excuse me. And I said, No, I want to be a senior because I've seen it in the movies, and I want to throw with my head.

And my host mom, Lisa, was there, and she looked at me, she went, and then she looked at the woman, she went, You heard her,

and they put me in the senior class. I still don't know how I pulled that one off, but it was honestly amazing. And I'm still in contact with my host family, their children, my unofficial granddad, who is still alive at 92

I still have friends that I'm I mean, I can tell you. I mean, loads of I loved it. I got very, very, very lucky. And, and I did say years later to my my host mom, Lisa, who was only 28 at the time, she was very young herself. And I said, why did we never I had such an amazing year. And I said, Why have you never, kind of done an exchange program again? Because when your children were like, maybe 1314, 1516, you could have done it again. She said, England, we would never, ever find someone like you. So we just decided never to do it again, because we had so much fun. It was such a great year, and it would all maybe been a disappointment. So I got very, very lucky. Oh, it's all downhill after English.

Anyway. So, yeah, I'm sorry that was a very long answer to your question, but no, it was brilliant. It's good. Yes, no, how about you? Lesley, how about you? How about me. I mean, I suppose you know, it's interesting. I've spoken about my childhood a little bit before, but so I sort of grew up in a vicarage, which is something that a lot of people probably don't know about me. So my grandad was a cannon at Blackburn cathedral, and he also was the vicar of the local parish church in Blackburn. So he had been there for 27 years and back in the day. So this is back in the kind of late 60s, early 70s. The vicarages related, you know, attached to churches were magnificent, kind of beautiful houses. Now, quite often now, they've sold a lot of the really big ones off, and they're not owned by the church anymore. You know, I think that was done like 2030, years ago. It actually happened while my grandparents, they went from this huge, I mean, huge house, which is now a nursing home. So I grew up in this kind of mansion. All I can say was, like a mansion, probably like a 16 bedroom house, absolutely stunning. And so when I say, grew up there, I lived with my mum and dad in a small, little terraced house. My mum worked full time. My dad worked full time. Obviously, my granddad, my grandma and Grandad, with him being a vicar during the week, had a little bit, I'm not saying, to have more time, but my grandma wasn't working. So I would go, certainly from school, because the school that I went to was the one associated with the church, and so I was there a lot because my mum was working. I was an only child. I was definitely the apple of my grandparents eyes, so they absolutely adored me, which is lovely. So so many happy memories in this huge house. And I think it also meant that I grew up quite quickly, I think, being an only child and being around that kind of environment as well, I was around a lot of influential people and stuff like that. You know, parishioners I would go into with my granddad into church all the time. I was confirmed really early. I was, like, three or four years younger than most people. So, yeah. So I grew up in a vicarage, which I absolutely love, and I'm completely fascinated by the house I want to go back in. So I knew that it had been so as I say, they sold. The house was sold, and they moved into the house next door, which was still a sizable house, right as a vicarage, but it wasn't a mansion. And so obviously that I was there for quite a while that my grandparents died, sadly, and then I've always wanted to go and knock on the door and say, Hi, I used to live here. Please. Can have a little guided tour. And I'm sure they would probably be fine, right? Yeah, but I don't live in Blackburn anymore, so it's kind of like 30 it's not far, it's like 30 miles away. So one of these days, I'm going to go up, and I'm going to really go take a trip down memory lane, have a look at it. But I've looked at it online. Obviously, it's no people's home, so you can do guided tours. And so I know so I've seen things, but I think I would like to pop back in and have a have a look so very, very special upbringing in a very special place. So yeah,

I mean, I knew you were, you're, I think you, I knew your granddad was a vicar, but I hadn't realized, like, about the whole vicarage and that you were, like, you know, a lot there all the time. Well, that's number one and two. Then Things You Didn't Know About Ingrid and Lesley. Well, Lesley, what have we got next? So next up Ingrid, I want to ask you whether you have ever done or met anyone seriously impressive. Well, I don't know, but I think so. I mean, I saw some members of YouTube from afar, which is, like, my favorite band ever. So that was kind of like, oh, because they were in the hotel that I was working at the time, and they everybody knew that was a massive YouTube fan. So that was like, who's

here? So I kind of snuck my head around the corner and then nearly fainted of excitement.

And when I was working in in the ant work in Antwerp, in the Hilton, I actually served lunch to mister Joe cooker. Yes, nice. So he came in because I think he had a show, like a big show or concert tour or something at the time in in Belgium. And the Antwerp Hilton was, like, one of the nicest, or the nicest hotel in Antwerp, and I was the the supervisor at the time I was doing my traineeship. And there he came in with his wife, and they were absolutely lovely. And I was like, Oh, hello. And then I thought, Oh, I did, like, nearly a double take. Like, Coach Joe cooker, you know what I mean, so

yeah. And I suppose you would get opportunities like that to see famous people in the hotel industry. So you probably saw a few people bobbing around the hotels, even if it was just from afar, yeah. And so mine's not really like that, but I one of the, probably one of my favorite things that we did. So I also, just in case anyone doesn't know, lived in America for a few years, and not when I was 16. I wasn't shipped off as a child.

I was actually free will adult, able to make my own decisions. So I lived in New Jersey when I was in my 30s, and I had my eldest two kids at the time, Luke Leah. And one of the things that happened then, I don't think it happens anymore, is on Easter Sunday, they have an Easter egg roll at the White House, which is hosted by the First Lady, right? So basically, we were in Washington, DC, for the holidays, for the Easter holidays, and you have to queue up, like, for hours. So Steve was in the queue at like, three o'clock in the morning to get tickets. So it's, like, free to get in, but you have to queue for tickets. We got tickets for the Easter Egg Roll, so it's on the White House lawn. So basically, your kids are given little Easter Egg Roll, and it's a little games. There's games, there's storytelling. So the kids got, um, red stories by Laura Bush, and so you write in the lawn of the White House, it was, like, incredible. So, you know, you just kind of like, I know you can go and visit the White House, which is fine, and but this was, you know, a kind of really in depth, sort of special experience. So actually, that picture that's behind me there Ingrid in the corner, which a lot of people will see on my background. That is the little poster that we got from the White House. You got little books and posters and stuff. But I think they stopped doing it because it was just before 911 and I think after 911 they don't do it anymore. I think I might, I might be wrong with that. Um, but yeah. So yeah. So that was very special, and obviously my kids absolutely loved it. So yeah, lovely day in the White House. Yeah, I did a I did when I lived in America. My host mom, Lisa, was a travel agent, so we actually did a couple of days in Washington, and I visited the White House. And of course, you know, it's like, amazing. So yes, but rolling easter eggs on the lawn. I can't beat that. Lesley,

right. Okay, we're not going to do a tally, because all of these things, yeah. Today we won't go head to head and say whose is exactly, because that would be, that would be exactly. Um, so, yeah. Next question, so Ingrid, tell me something physical about you that people might not know. Well,

I actually can ski, wow, although I'm not very good at it. To be honest with you, I think, you know, the thing is, when I was young, because we lived in Holland, and lots of Dutch people, and it's like the weirdest thing, because Holland is like the flattest country on Earth. But lots of Dutch people love skiing. So at one point, my parents decided to go on a holiday to like Austria or something in the winter. And my dad could ski. My mom could not, and so they had kind of envisaged that their kids me.

Me and my little sister would also have little skis on so we could start, like, really, really young, like, at the age of three or four. And I think I just did an Ingrid, and I just when I'm not wearing those stupid ski shoes, I don't want, I want to wear my snow boots on the skis. And my mum went, but it's not possible. You have to wear like, ski shoes. And I'm like, no, they're too heavy. I don't like them. So never, ever got me on the skis when I was tiny. So of course, when I was 15 or something, the year, I think there was the year before I went to America, there was, like, this youth trip that you can go with a group of youths with a whole bus full to to Austria. So that's where I actually learned to ski. But I think I've never been super sporty, so I think I got, like, the singing and the kind of rhythmic genes my sister had ever gotten, every sporting gene. So she my sister can like, snowboard, ski, mountain, bike, every sport she does. She's good at this. I have like, 2% so how on earth, why I actually tried to ski so many years I don't even know, because every time I'm on that mountain, I'm like, Why? Why am I doing this? Why

It is a lovely thing to do, but it is such hard work. I mean literally, I on the ski slope. I'm like, you I didn't start so much later. You know, I literally have cried, like, sobbed on the ski slopes with, like, disappointment. Or, you know, when you cut, when you career down like 200 what feels like 200 meters, falling to near death. You know what I mean at the bottom of the sky, like, why am I actually putting myself through. It's hard work getting on the lift. It's hard work walking up. Like, what? Where's the fun in that? But it kind of somehow you just do it, don't you? Yeah, so, so, so you're saying that you're not very good. So let's, let's get a picture of this. Are you going? Are you black runs, red runs? Could you do a black run? I I, I don't want to do a black run. Lesley, I've ended up on black runs crying my eyes out because the bugles were so big that I was just looking going, I'm not gonna go down there. I'm just gonna take my skis off and walk down so by accident, I want a couple of times have ended up black runs, and I thought, No, I've skied in mist, in fog, in snow,

thinking you can't see, but when the skies are blue and the sun is shining, nothing can beat you know, going down a blue beast, having the best time with your friends. Or, you know, we've also went with couples. We took the kids when they were little, many, many years. But you know what, I'm getting older now, and I'm like, can I actually do another skill?

I know exactly. No. I think I I think I've hung up my ski boots. I think I have. I did it for many, many years, and I did enjoy it, but I think I've got plantar fasciitis. I've got a slip disc in my back. You know what? I mean,

Well, I think probably maybe not a lot of listeners know this, but I can't remember ever talking about it. But I can actually flamenco dance.

I can ballroom dance. I mean, that's kind of quite you know, a lot of people did ballroom dancing, I think, well, at least when I was growing up, everybody was like, 1314, 15 years old, went to ballroom dancing. I also did rock and roll. So I actually can rock and roll. And I was like, being flung through the air and stuff. Not now, because I'm far too heavy to be flung into the air. But I also did a really long course to learn how to flamenco dance with castanets and everything nice. Yeah, I'm really, really glad at this moment in time that I've never, ever had to watch you doing that.

We actually did a whole show. So we had like to win a dance school. And the young was, this was a teenager, yeah, all right. So when you say you can flamenco dance, yeah, you flaming, this is your secret skill. So if we put the flamenco music on, could you then put the fishtail skirt on and the castanets and do the dancing? Yeah?

Right. Well, well, I've not done it for like, 40 years, Lesley, but I there is pictures. There are pictures of this. And we actually, when you do like at the end of the year, you do like a show, and you have to do ballroom dancing, you get grades and stuff to go up the next level and things. And one of the part of the show was rock and roll, and I actually won. I have the award still, because I think it's one of the only awards I've ever, ever got in my life. Still that. And we did a whole thing about Flamengo dancing, and actually

invited a Flamengo dancer who came from Spain to grade us, and we hired Flamengo dresses with hats. It's I just need to take a step back. This is classic, classic Ingrid. We've asked her what a secret skill is. She's told us she's not done this for 40 years, 40 years four zero, but she still thinks that she can flamenco. Does pictures of me Ingrid, Paul vaulting off a bench at junior school, right? But I can't still do it.

because they've been tad on the mean side, maybe on occasion, but that's the beauty of a good April Fool, that, yeah, you've got to build them up over the week. You've got to set the scene. You can't just wake up on April 1 and go, I'm going to do something like this. So, you know, you're not going to school today. They're all kind of lame, right? That lame April Fools. You've got to do an elaborate, full blown, well thought through, and it's got to be something that

has got context from the week. We won't go into the April fool that I did with you Ingrid, but it was an absolute classic, yeah. And I was very, very angry, and I think there were tears in the end,

and then, and then when it starts to get too far, and I'm kind of like, okay, I need to pull this back in again now, and I'm like, What day is it? Doing this all the time? What day is it? What date is it? And then all of a sudden, the penny starts dropping, and then people are just so, yeah, I love a good April Fool. Yeah. Love a prank. I know you do. Let's go.

It is. You're very, very good at it because of your poker face, and you can, and I think you enjoy it far too much. So I think that's, I mean, we missed it last year. There was, I don't think you did an April Fool's last year. I can't remember. Or maybe you just did bullet on me, but on somebody else. The problem I did not do I had a year after last year. Because the problem is, the people are expecting it, right? My kids literally are putting alarms on their phones for when they wake up on April, on April the first so, which is not in the spirit of it, I hasten to add. But the problem is nowadays on social media, when your kids wake up straight on the phones and the scene all the April the first stop. And so you can't do it because, you know, so I had to do one. There was quite a funny one couple years ago with Leah. So I had to change tack a little bit. And so I don't know whether anybody's ever seen my daughter, but she's a tiny little dot. She's isn't she? She's a tiny and I am not so tiny. And so I told her that I was fed up of my fashion sense and that I wanted to start wearing her clothes. And did she have anything in a wardrobe that would fit me?

And I was like, No, and, but it was a whole kind of elaborate thing. I was like, I'm fed up with the way that I look. I need to up my game. This was but this was two minutes past midnight. So I went for an early, yeah, so I went for a kind of, I've got to get there before they wake up tomorrow morning. And her face, God Louis was trying to find something to fit my frame out of

Oh, I my bucket list is very, very long, but on the top of that bucket list is I would love one day to go to Japan. Yeah, I ever since I saw the movie The Karate kids when I was a teenage.

Here, living in Holland, with bikes and windmills and clogs and cheese, and I saw the Karate Kid, and I thought, wow, that is so different. I would one day, would love to see,

you know, the doors that slide, you know that don't open but slide. And I would love to see the trees and the houses and the way they dress. And I don't know, I find it fascinating. So I would, one day that is on my bucket list. I would love to go to Japan.

Now, anybody listening podcast know that I love my holidays, and so it makes me tick. It's like, my favorite thing in the world to do, and we do lucky enough to go into some incredible places, but we've never been to Hawaii because it's just a long way, you know, it's just a really long way. And so because, you know, it's probably 13 or 14 hours to get over to, like, LA, and then you've probably got another, I think it maybe is like five or six hours, even beyond there, longer to get from there. So it's kind of almost got, like, going to to Australia, really, for us, or maybe even a little bit further, yeah, because you've got to sort of split the journey which, and that's the reason why we've never been but I've just got this I just, I don't know, like, let us know if you've been to Hawaii. I just have this sneaky suspicion that it might, then it might disappoint me, because I've wanted to go there for so, so long. I don't know what I don't know. I think I nearly went to Hawaii because somebody I knew was getting married there. So I actually, really seriously considered going. And I actually bought like a guide, because this is before the digital age. So you bought a I bought a booklet, and I kept it on my bookshelf for a very, very long time. Aspirational, one day I want to go to Hawaii, so I understand that you want to go there because, yeah, it sounds so fascinating. I do. I do. I just think it's great. You know that whole it's a bit like the Japanese thing. It's different with all the lays. And you know what? I mean, it just looks fabulous, doesn't it? And so I just really, really, really hope it lives up to my expectations when I get there one day, which I absolutely will. So, yeah, nothing to do with decluttering at all today. Just a little trip down memory lane for Ingrid. And I a bit of fun for this, Ingrid and Lesley week, which is all related to something very special that we've got coming up, which you all know about, I hope by now, Lesley week. So to finish off, then, on that note, Ingrid, what's the thing you're most proud of in 2025

Yeah, and it's kind of a bonus number, because we've done 10, but we had to put this in, because as of today, Thursday, The 27th of February, 2025 Lesley, we are published authors. Can you believe it? I know, no, not really.

Well, I kind of can, because we've been talking about nothing else for the past sort of two months, apart from the book coming out. But yeah, just the fact that it's actually out there, and we are officially published authors as of today. Yeah, it's so exciting. So actually, that could have been our number one bucket list item. Was writing a book on your bucket list? Well, I, I did think about it, but I actually kind of was more like an aspirational, maybe one day something kind of thing. Yeah, we actually would pull it off together was, like, incredible, really? Yeah. I mean, bucket list is definitely holidays and not more work, yeah.

So, yeah, no, so, but I think it's, you know, just to finish it off. And we're just, we're so, so lucky Ingrid. We've had some fabulous experiences to our life. We're very charmed. We go on gorgeous holidays, we have fun, we've got nice family and friends, and so we feel very, very Charmed, don't we? But, you know, the book is just so special to us. You know, it kind of came, came from nowhere. That's not, not strictly true, but it came to us almost, didn't it? And so we've done all the hard work on it and everything, but to get it actually over the line and published today is incredible, yeah, I know.
